National Botanic Gardens
Located a few kilometers north of Harare city centre, the National Botanic Gardens are home to various indigenous fauna and flora from the region. The garden has areas allocated to plants from different regions and includes the National Herbarium of Zimbabwe. Mukuvisi Woodlands an urban-based nature reserve and environmental education centre located in the eastern part of Harare. National Heroes Acre
Heroes Acre, a national memorial site located 7km from Harare City Centre is a monument that commemorates soldiers who fought and died during the Second Chimurenga War – Zimbabwe’s Liberation Struggle. The site houses graves of liberation heroes and heroines, a statue representing 3 types of soldiers, a slab commemorating the unknown soldiers lost at war and two murals depicting the journey to liberation from colonial rule and independence. The historical site is open from 9h00 to 16h30 from Monday to Friday.
Lake ChiveroÂ
Lake Chivero is a man-made reservoir on the Manyame River located 30km southwest from Harare City Centre. The lake is within the Lake Chivero recreational park which boasts various activities for visitors. The recreational park offers fishing activities, game viewing, hiking, horse riding, camping, picnic sites and boating. The park is accessed from Harare-Bulawayo Road. The park is open Monday to Sunday from 09h00 to 18h00.Â
